Dear Parents,

As the Executive Principal of Eko Pathways, I am very proud of the personal development and accomplishments that the children achieve. This school offers quality education for children with social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties. It is an all through school on a single site. In order to meet the children’s various and complex needs, we have a range of expert teaching and support staff, in addition to educational psychologists, a clinical psychologist and speech and language therapist to name a few.

In the primary school we offer a broad curriculum and enrichment activities. At the heart of the curriculum is the Resilience Framework and Thrive. These aspects allow the children to develop their emotional understanding of themselves and how to self-regulate with greater confidence. Other activities that support the development of the whole child include weekly sessions at Lambourne End, Forest School, ECAM instrumental lessons in Year 5, cooking skills and Thrive 1:1 sessions.

We carefully assess the child’s needs on entry to Eko Pathways to see how their time will be managed. Some children will start off with five days per week, whereas other children may start with four days per week. We work flexibly with the child’s mainstream school, creating joint targets to meet at both schools, in order to build up the child’s knowledge and skills, to eventually return to their mainstream peers. This decision is jointly agree between Eko Pathways, the mainstream school and the parents of the child.

In the secondary school, the focus for the students is on their future pathways. We want the children to really think about their next steps after Eko Pathways and understand how their learning and behaviour now can impact on their future. There are aspirations for students to go into direct employment, apprenticeships, college, and university, for those who want to go further with their studies. The curriculum centres around a range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Religion, Art, PE, Media and Food Technology. In addition to the core curriculum that we offer, there are life skill opportunities as well as preparing the children for the world of work. This includes at least two work experience places before finishing school.

We are very excited about the potential that each child has and the team are motivated by how much progress the children and young people make over time. As we await the build of the new secondary site to complete, we are busily planning exciting new learning opportunities that will support the children even further in fulfilling their potential.

We look forward to working with you to get the best out of the children.

Kind regards
Clinton Pascoe

Coronavirus Update

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We hope you are all keeping well and taking care of yourselves and your families.  Thank you for all you are doing.

Our aim during this time is the safety and well-being of our children and staff. In addition to this, we recognise and recommend the need for continuity, routine, and structure for parents and carers and children.

We would ask all parents and carers to take the time to read the information below, so that as a community we support our children over the coming weeks.  We know this may be a repeat of information you have had before.

Our school reopens to pupils on Monday the 7th of September. Pupils who attended in the summer term will return to school then. School is open for pupils from 10am - 2pm every day.

The expectation is for all pupils to return to the site on a phased return. Some will need additional support to do so if they have been out of school for some months, learning from home. Staff from Eko Pathways will visit the families of pupils who have not been on site since March to explain how school works now and to support them to return to their class.

The curriculum focus is to support pupils to adjust to learning on site again, with a focus on English, Maths, Science, physical and mental well-being. Pupils are expected to wear their uniform, regularly washed, from September and to bring a water bottle and bag for books.

We look forward to welcoming you all back again and please feel free to phone us on 0207 884 5234 with any queries.

Eko Pathways – Mission Statement

'Integrating pupils into mainstream education, the world of work and life’

Eko Pathways is a special school for pupils with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. It caters for pupils from Years R to Year 11 on a brand new purpose build site at Flanders Rd. The school is in the London Borough of Newham, an ethnically diverse inner city area. Pupils are taught in small classes with a high adult to pupil ratio. Typically pupils are taught for three days at Eko Pathways with two days spent at a mainstream link school with the aim of the provision to return the pupil full time to mainstream education.
