Premier League Primary Stars offered from 2014 - 2020
The programme aims to develop skills and ambition both on and off the sports field, with resources for girls and boys aged 5-11 years old. Our professional staff provide curriculum-linked Key Stage 1 and 2 classroom resources for PE, Maths, English and PSHE, helping to engage and nurture development both in the classroom and playground.
The programme helps to encourage teamwork and resilience, promoting equality, diversity and anti-bullying. This enables the children to:
– Be ambitious – work hard and never give up on their goals
– Be inspiring – set a great example to others
– Be connected –work well with others and in a team
– Be fair – treat people equally and think of others
With a wide range of delivery models, the two organisations have been able to tailor the programme to meet the needs of our young people, not only in the Primary sector, but the Secondary too.
Charlie’s story
Charlie is 11 and has special educational needs meaning he is unable to access a mainstream school. Having been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Charlie was signposted to Eleanor Smith School now called Eko Pathways in Newham, a school which benefits from the Premier League Primary Stars programme delivered by WHU Foundation.
With his anxiety so high that even entering the school was an enormous challenge, coupled with new teachers, peers and surroundings, Charlie struggled to settle in. Fast forward 6 months, and it is thanks to the interventions put in place by WHU Foundation and specialist school staff that Charlie is now growing in confidence so much so that he regularly completes his work in class, converses more with his peers and forms friendships, and attends the entire offering of football sessions made available at the school, even choosing to attend an after school club.
Charlie’s progression has been made possible in part thanks to the one-on-one support WHU Foundation have been able to provide at the PL Primary Stars after school sessions, in addition to the delivery of tailored PE sessions in small groups designed to develop confidence, self-esteem, team-work and communication.
